Religious Education

Statement of Intent

At Wath Central, the intention is for all children to develop a clear understanding of how views can differ and how our beliefs are unique to each individual. We intend for all children to appreciate the similarities and differences between different religions and beliefs and show respect towards those who have differing beliefs to our own.

To do this, Wath Central aim to:

1.     Encourage children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of a variety of religions represented  within the United Kingdom and around the world.

2.     To provide a relevant, challenging and enjoyable R.E. curriculum for all pupils that is broad, balanced and relevant in today’s World.

3.     Develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgments about religious and moral issues, with references to religious practices.

4.     Enhance the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through considering fundamental questions of life, responding or posing questions about their world and experiences and reflecting on their own beliefs.

5.     Develop positive attitudes of respect towards other people who hold views and beliefs that are different to their own, and towards a society of diverse religions and beliefs.

Implementation - Religious Education at Wath Central

Religious Education at Wath Central is provided in line with the legal requirements and follows the framework of the Rotherham Agreed Syllabus. Through using this syllabus, we encourage pupils to engage in reflecting on their own beliefs and the beliefs of others, including those of a different religion. It is our intent to encourage children to study their own values, whilst recognising the practices and traditions of different religions throughout our local area and the rest of the World. Our syllabus therefore promotes discernment and enable pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning.

Celebrating our identity

Our R.E. curriculum and school ethos celebrates who we are, what we believe in and what we identify as.

In Religious Education, children are given questions to reflect on in relation to themselves, others around the World and others in our local community.
