We have high expectations about behaviour and how we treat one another. Our expectations are clear and taught directly. We agree that we follow rules and expectations so that our school is a safe and happy place for us all. Our school rules are clear, fair, and co constructed.
We work together to find solutions to problems.
Rule of Law
Democracy
At Wath Central, children learn that ideas matter. We use pupil voice groups, class discussions and voting so that children can influence their school experience
Individual Liberty
Our trauma informed approach, our teaching and learning model and our curriculum and enrichment offer are all designed to support the building of self esteem and confidence so that we have a strong sense of identity.
We encourage children to make free choices, be independent and show initiative, to use their voice with confidence in a safe, supportive environment.
Mutual Respect
At Wath Central, everyone is treated with kindness and respect. We learn about different cultures and beliefs, so that every child feels valued.
Tolerance
We discuss and appreciate the differences between people, faiths, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, young carers and disability. We teach about empathy and respect directly and how to look after one another.
Our Commitment to British Values and Equality

At our school, every child is valued, included, and celebrated for who they are. We believe that all children have the right to feel safe, respected, and able to achieve their very best. Our approach is rooted in strong British Values and in recognising and protecting the unique identity of each member of our school community.

Protected Characteristics
Our school is committed to promoting equality and ensuring that no child or adult faces discrimination. We actively uphold and teach the nine Protected Characteristics set out in the Equality Act (2010):
-
Age
-
Disability
-
Gender reassignment
-
Marriage and civil partnership
-
Pregnancy and maternity
-
Race
-
Religion or belief
-
Sex
-
Sexual orientation
By exploring these in a child‑friendly way, we help children understand fairness, acceptance, and the importance of standing up for the rights of others.

A Trauma‑Informed School
We are proud to be a trauma‑informed school. This means we understand that children’s experiences shape how they feel, learn, and behave. We:
-
build trusting and caring relationships
-
prioritise emotional safety
-
teach children strategies to manage big feelings
-
create calm, predictable routines
-
respond to behaviour with empathy, consistency, and understanding
Our staff are trained to recognise the impact of trauma and to support children with compassion. We believe that connection comes before correction, and that every child can thrive when their emotional needs are met.
Together, stronger, we can

Our commitment to inclusion runs through everything we do. By promoting British Values, teaching about Protected Characteristics, and embedding trauma‑informed practice, we create a school where every child feels understood, supported, and empowered.
