Our Curriculum Vision
At Wath Central, we are passionate about our curriculum. As a team, we build and adapt learning journeys that are engaging, pupil-orientated and relevant to children living in modern Britain. All of our subjects are underpinned by a series of ‘Big Ideas’. These are key concepts that are woven into our curriculum and help children understand the world, connect new ideas and challenge their thinking. Across a range of subjects, children develop a better understanding of the following concepts:
-
Environmental Responsibility
-
The Natural World
-
Understanding Others
-
Community, Citizenship and the Wider World
-
Overcoming adversity
-
Migration
-
Technology and the Advancement of Humanity
-
Friendship and Kindness
-
British Heritage

Across the Curriculum, our lessons are delivered using our Teaching and Learning Model.

Children begin our lessons with a ‘Connect’ phase where they will retrieve prior learning. Teachers then become the experts during the ‘Explain’ and ‘Example’ stage. Here knowledge, key skills and new vocabulary are explained and modelled. With support, children begin to apply their new skills in the ‘Attempt’ phase before moving on to independently tackle an activity in the ‘Apply’ phase. Children are stretched and asked to think hard in our ‘Challenge’ phase. Lessons are tailored to individual children, to ensure all pupils can achieve to their full potential. Assessment is always at the forefront of our teacher’s minds and children are given opportunities to showcase their new skills and talents. By delivering a curriculum that is carefully planned and constantly being adapted, we hope to inspire the future generations of scientists, historians, conservationists, artists, designers and athletes
